Yes, Sparc IU is the plastic QFP closer to the ceramic Weitek |

| I've also got one plastic Sparc IU on board with Weitek FPU, but my board is different than these. Could I still have similar SPARC IU there or are there different plastic versions? I thought about unpacking and photographing its die instead of selling the chip or board, though. I've already opened Weitek 3172A FPU from that board, but I still have that board with all other chips on it in good conition. Are you interested in seeing pics of my board? |

the right board has a plastic S1C0007 IU, not sure about the left board because it's out of focus.
I have already a plastic S1C0010 IU, they are used on SparcStation 1 but are more common ceramic with goldtop or black metal can chips |

In fact, those are pretty definitely SLCs, as they have the LED block on the top (right in the picture) which is not present on the ELCs (annoyingly, since they provide diagnostic). Also, the chips are organised in a completely different layout.
It's visible in the Field Engineer Handbook, which as outlines for both boards (and it's the same orientation as in the picture, too )

I still own a working SLC, another one in unknown condition (haven't checked it in over a decade) and a couple dead or almost dead ELC motherboards, once intended as an upgrade for the SLCs... |

if you are interested to sell one or more (depending by the CPUs installed) of the death motherboards, I'm here to buy them, I need only a good picture of them
thanks! |

One only has a dead ethernet (but those are diskless, so you really need the network) and the other won't turn on the display. I figure some day I'll try to fix the first one with parts from the second one... or perhaps a compatible part from my stack of SPARCstation 1 & 1+
I sort of keep a "live" museum of sun4. Learned UNIX on them many many moons ago, and still love them. So, none of them are for sale In fact, I'm more of a buyer - I could use a Weitek POWER uP for an IPX or a SS2.
Update: I'm probably on the wrong side of the atlantic for most people BTW (France). |

Cool, thanks for the info. I was mistaken by the fact that the trade section seems full of prices in $. I should take a second look at the 'for sale' then. |
