Today i received the parcel from John.. About 3-4 kg, 75 USD value. So the story at the custom's office was like this:

- please open the package.. what's inside?
- used computer processors
- (looking at the papers): from USA.. outside EU.. 75 USD value.. hmmm.. for everything above 10 eur you need to pay VAT 24% and taxes..
- Ok, i know..
He took a book from the desk and was searchin' for something.... and keep searching.. 1 minute, 2 minutes.. was already nervous... took a desk calculator and started: 75 - something * something.. cancel... 75- something + something.. cancel... 75 * something - something.. cancel..
- And who is this John?
- My friend from USA..
- OK .. you dont have to pay this time.. go home...
I was dumb enough to ask: fo' real? i dont need to pay anything?
And the asnwer was " this time no.. just go.. go "

Smile)

Looks like every parcel is a battle between you and customs.
Hope you'll win the next one too!

a month ago i bought something from China... 11 Eur.. because it was over 10, i paid 24% VAT, and if you have to pay VAT dont know why you also have to pay some fee to the post office - 2 eur... Smile if the value is 10 eur you dont have to pay anything.. Smile)

I am so SO lucky. In Hong Kong there is no import taxes or duties payable on anything John sends me for ANY value!

In Denmark, we need to pay 25% VAT for values above approximately 13$ or so. Det biggest problem is, that if it is not declared in advance, the Post company charges a fee of about 20$ for handling...

Unless it is sent from within EU, then there's no charge...

Rules are similar in EU but taxes are different. 27%VAT here over value 10EUR. Except gift under value 45EUR, that is free.
Customs know I have lot of friends around the world, I always get gifts from somewhere. lol

And since more stuff comes to the US FROM HK, shipping TO HK is fairly cheap compared to other places (trying to fill the empty space on the backhaul I guess)

same in Czech
VAT is 21% for items above approx. 25$ (unfortunately, the shipping price is just added to value of the item inside the parcel, so, the total price is almost every time above $25) and the handling is approx $8 (you can save this money if you do the whole process with customs personally in Prague on the central post office - funny, just 200 km/ 130 miles form my home)

to Cedrik: due to this distance I communicate with customs only via mail/email, so, I always spend $8, but it's much better for my psychical condition Wink

I see that chinese sellers sends to Sweden, Netherland, Switzerland and somehow repack and resend to EU customers to prevent problems with customs.

My battle wasn't so easy too but now I'm on custom's white list here after many many mails, phone calls years ago. I think I have been tagged as collector of unusual worthless stuff Smile
