Hi, I hope I'm posting in the right section and not breaking any rules.
I've been all over the forum over the last week but finally I realized I had to register on yet another forum. I don't think I'll be a regular member here but I will be here on and off for a while now.
Earlier this summer I was offered a large lot of x86 CPU:s from 8086 up to Pentium MMX black fiber mixed with some odd beasts, Alpha, Sparc, various DEC, IBM, Ericsson, Motorola... for gold recovery. In short, I bought close to 80 kilos of CPU:s. Last week I made an inventory and it came to about 3000 cpu:s, most common CPU was Pentium with 1000 pieces.
I realize that some of them deserves a better fate than an acid bath so I'm trying to find out which models are worth saving. To sort a couple of thousands of cpu:s and looking everyone up is too big a job so I was hoping someone could give me some pointers of what to look for. So far I've already sold some odd cpu:s on ebay and I found at least one rare 486, 80486DX-25 SX308 with date code L0290100. Placing me at 13'th place on the oldest 486 list.
I'm collecting vintage computers and I'm not going to start another collection. So I will be selling anything worth saving and the rest goes to gold recovery. I'm not trying to get extreme prices as I would like to finish this project off in a month or two depending on how much time I can spare, but I don't like to feel cheated either. I guess I'm in for a quite steep learning curve right now.
I'm located in Sweden by the way.
Here is a teaser... A couple of boxes with odd CPU:s, overdrives and other CPU:s with integrated heat sink didn't fit on the table. |

Then I'm actually quite a bit closer at Tampere but still not close enough to get there easily.
Maybe you could list SSPECs of Intels so that you can easily find some price information by searching this forum. Then you could scan or photograph the others. Maybe you could then let forum members post offers on interesting or missing ones we spot in pics and SSPEC list. There's likely several offers on rare ones then and you should get nice price for them. That would also let collectors buy more common chips when they're missing in their collection, and for them price is usually around their scrap value or a bit higher. |

When you post details looking for prices or asking for offers, do not accept the first offer you get. Give it a couple of days, in case someone is unaware of the value of any rarer chips.
That might be common sense, but not everyone is scrupulous. Not saying anyone would try and rip you off, but you need it to be worth your time and effort _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Thanks for the tips, I'm currently going through Pentiums after going through 486 with black ceramic lids and 75 PPRo (found 14 different SSpecs and model numbers) and I have a few more at home.
I'll start a sale thread, I think I will keep it here on the forum primarily and eBay secondary. Someone in Hungary took my Nexgen after 12 hours on eBay, maybe I had a too low buy it now price.
I'm a bit scared to start sorting a thousands Pentiums... but I'll do it! ... maybe not tonight though.

Funny you should ask. My friend that helped me sort through all CPU:s asked the same thing. Actually tables can take quite a lot of weight, just imagine a few persons sitting on a table, that can easily add up to a couple of times the weight of that lot. It's only about 70 kilos on the table.
Just to prove my point I added my weight to it and it passed the test.
