So is SD18 a rare S Spec or not? _________________ 4000+ chips.

I'd be inclined to believe so - It is an early one, So why not?
And JAC has posted another with a similar S Spec.
Q Specs sometimes only have 4 characters aswell right? _________________ 4000+ chips.

SD18, have only 2 digits.
I think it is another code, like "C-STEP" or "COMBO" on 386SX cpus.
Possible ? |
S-Spec is variable in it's form, especially on older processors. Two of my 386 (no DX or SX) have S-Specs S40344 and S40362. I haven't recorded S-Specs or other codes for older processors yet, so won't even try to comment on them. It seems logical that Intel considered other formats for the S-Spec before settling on the format we all recognise.
For most modern S-Specs, there are two letters and 3 characters, where "character" could be a letter OR a number (eg SL22V, etc), it's not ALWAYS 3 numbers _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Well, I've not been very accurate. Too fast
The Sspec for me is SYXXX, where Y is a letter and XXX most of time a number but sometimes with a letter.
But there was something, before this. I don't think it is called Sspec, but it was for the same purpose.
The form is SXXXXX with XXXXX always numbers.
But never something like SYXX. There is logic with Sspec and SD18 is not in the logic.
For bacterio, here are what debs is talking about :
