Pentium PIII I have a die shot but my scope is not good enough. From the right angle though you can see the underlying structures and it looks like this and the die marking on the corner I can not make out with my scope _________________ best rgds.

Thanks for the info, so it is Katmai, by the the size of the die. _________________ Looking For Chips 386 J38605DX, Symphony FPU, Rise Tiger, MP6-II, Winchip 3&4, IDT C6-Early Logo, Nx686, Tesla 8088, L80C86, Bulgarian 8088, Pentium 4 QT69ES. |

For me this one looks more like Coppermine than Katmai for two reasons:
- Isn't die size measurement too small for Katmai (12.3 x 10.4 mm) and OK for Coppermine (11.3 x 9.4 mm)?
- In first pic I see hints of cache areas through all the top metal layers and their position is exactly like L2 cache on Coppermine die. There's also two sections like Coppermine's core and cache areas whereas Katmai shouldn't have such border.
BTW, it's useful to compare these dies to your Cascades 2M wafer. If size of these dies and looks of layers under pads matches the core area with higher pad density on wafer, then it'll confirm you have Cascades 2M and Coppermine. |

HI - I did compare the dies on the XEON Cascades and this die here at almost exactly 9mm x 11mm which would nail it as a Coppermine. IN any case I have mailed a few dies to Aberco so maybe once he gets them he can confirm. For the time being I am calling them "Coppermine" dies. _________________ best rgds.

Yep I did not say which PIII I meant... :p
It is indeed Coppermine, L2 cache is clearly visible. |
