I was browsing through old threads and came across one a while ago for a large number of i860 cpus that our group buy was outbid on and the comments were that they are still widely used.

What are they used for? Would they be going into new systems or for repairs of older systems? It seems rather odd as in my experience, the cpu is rarely the point of failure in a computer system.

I guess you are referring to SX352 GB. I was reading that GB post few days ago and was thinking the buyer should not be a collector, otherwise it should be a sale of them somewhere.

I think they might be used on industrial computers. I found some i860 are soldered on the circuit board card on ebay, and it looks like the cards for industrial machinery or computers.
