Hey guys!
I own a Compaq 6720s. It has a T2390 CPU and I'd like to upgrade it to something better.

The problem is I am new to this and don't really know what specs should I look for in the new CPU in order to ensure compatibility. Can you give me a hand? Thanks Smile

http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Pentium_Dual-Core_Mobile/T2390.html

This gives you a good idea of CPUs that may work (same platform etc)
Obviously your laptop may limit you but if you stay within the same TDP (35W) you should be safe.

You may want to research if that laptop will handle 667FSB or only 533

Thank you for answering!

I'm using AIDA64 and on the Chipset info tab it says this chipset (GME965) supports both the FSBs you wrote about as well as 800MHZ. Does this mean a CPU that works on this chipset, uses socket P, has a max FSB of 800 and a TDP of 35W would be compatible?

Also, is the S-Spec number relevant in this regard?

Not so much, most boards aren't going to care about the CPU stepping (which the sspec tells you)

You could google what others have upgraded that laptop too (or see what compaq offered as the max'd out configuration) and have a pretty good idea what it will handle
