The answer is both, depending on which way you want to look at it. I will try to explain:
The 6-core Opteron ("Istanbul"), Opteron 6100 series ("Magny-Cours"), 6200 series ("Interlagos"), and 6300 series ("Abu Dhabi") use a Probe Filter that AMD calls "HT-Assist". The purpose of a probe filter is to help maintain cache coherency across all of the processor cores.
| Quote: | | HT Assist, or the Probe Filter as it is sometimes called, works by using part of the processor’s L3 cache as a directory cache. This directory cache tracks all cache lines cached in the system. Instead of generating numerous cache probes when checking a cache line the processor does a Probe Filter Lookup. This helps lower latency for accesses to local DRAM because there is no need to wait for probe responses when accessing local data. This also means there is less queuing delay due to the lower HyperTransport technology traffic. With significantly reduced probe traffic it effectively also increases system bandwidth performance. It also should be noted that the directory cache uses 1MB of the 6MB L3 cache in the case of the Six-Core AMD Opteron processor. |
http://developer.amd.com/community/blog/2009/07/21/ht-assist-what-is-it/
So, part of the L3 cache gets used as a directory cache for the probe filter, and it is unavailable to the OS. The OS does not see that portion of the L3 cache.
On Istanbul, the probe filter is enabled only for 4-socket or 8-socket implementations. On Magny-Cours, Interlagos, and Abu Dhabi the probe filter is apparently enabled by default, because those are all 2 node processors (MCM).
Istanbul: 6MB physical L3 | 5MB OS-useable L3 (in 4-socket or 8-socket systems only)
Magny-Cours: 12MB physical L3 | 10MB OS-useable L3
Interlagos: 16MB physical L3 | 12MB OS-useable L3
Abu Dhabi: 16MB physical L3 | 12MB OS-useable L3
So there is the source of confusion. AMD literature shows the Interlagos CPUs have 16MB L3. They do, but the OS only sees 12MB L3 because 4MB is used for the probe filter.

| Same with IE11. Putting cpu-world.com to Compatibility View settings fixes this. |

Thanks, Elar
Also, pressing the Esc key stop the process as well after loading the page. Sometimes it is a hit or miss as well. |

I'm getting the same problem in the latest version of Firefox on Windows 10 64-bit. The page appears to load the once the advert has loaded the page disappears. Sometimes get the ad plus the message to disable my ad blocker. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

It should support IE 9 and earlier. I just checked that page in IE 8 and I also see a blank page. I'll try to fix it tonight...
