So, what mobo you have that supports i3 ?

MSI H61M-P21.

A smol board, with no PCI or PATA. It has COM/LPT ports, though. These are even older than PATA and I have no use of them. 2 or 4 more USB outlets would be much more useful on the back panel. But I can't really complain, I got it for free.

not bad at all, can build small quiet system on SSD and add dedicated video if needed.
Btw, checked your Gigabyte P965-DS3P mobo, if it's revision 3.3 you can possible upgrade to INTEL Quad-Core Xeon X5470 3.33GHz/12M/1333 Socket 771 with little modifications. I did that to my ASUS P5B-Deluxe-WiFi, still works like a charm Smile

My Wolfdale already has quite an appetite. Adding two more cores would make things even worse. What I seek is not higher performance (and surely not by more threads) but less heat and wasted power without a noticeable performance loss.

(And anything I would have to purchase is out of question. I may buy hardware when I have a better job, but not earlier. It's not a given to have money for anything more than food and bills now. Should anything break in the house - even food wouldn't be a given.)

...and I bit the bullet and built the 'scrapmachine' this weekend. I'm satisfied with the little i3 so far, it's just as fast or faster at 3.1ghz than the Wolfdale was at 3.8. I had memory problem, though. I replaced one of the big black Corsair Vengeance modules to a much smaller Kingston and now win7 memory test runs fine. Both modules are 2-side 4-GB and seem to make a good pair, despite the huge difference in their looks Very Happy
