How do I know whether a particular CPU processor is genuine or fake?

Is there some CPU authentication body to help consumers to identify a certain CPU as being real or not?

You need to know exactly how real ones are looking.
But you can just post photos here and we'll help you.

I have some fake pentium class and 486 cpus . Do you need the photos??

Was this from the bottom marking? It should also have marking on the top as well.

Intel? I don't think Intel ever made a 486DX-40 - not for desktop, at least. Anyone?

Yes Intel did

Yes those are the markings on the underside.
according to the BIOS (1993 80486 ISA AMIBIOS) it is a DX... I can't see what's on top because someone has glued a heatsink onto the top of the chip... I guess it is a DX2

Sorry... I forgot to login before the last post. The CPU has no Intel Copyright markings underneath
