I hope to upgrade the i7 640m cpu in my HP 6550b laptop. I have researched high and low and am unable to determine:

1. If it is at all possible, as the i7 640m cpu has an integrated gpu.
2. If possible, what do I do for a gpu? I don't know if the current motherboard will take a gpu. Or which one to choose.
3. Is there a higher performance cpu with a higher performance integrated gpu?
4. Do I get a new motherboard, cpu and gpu? This would be almost like buying a new laptop.

Clearly I don't have the answer. The other technical forums have offered no help. if someone can help with this it will be sincerely appreciated!

Not possible, as all faster (quad core) CPUs in that family have no IGP, which your system requires. Also, your motherboard has no option to add a GPU (no MXM slot), so that is also not an option. Swapping motherboards isn't an option, as the entire 6550b family had no option for a GPU. The 6560b family did, however it's a completely different motherboard and chassis and will not fit. It looks like you're stuck where you are, as that's the fastest CPU with integrated graphics that will fit your motherboard.
