I have quite a few wafers that I know are IBM - they have their logo on them after all... but how can I "translate" the part/product numbers into something meaningful like AS/400 CPU chip or whatever? Does anyone have a list of IBM part numbers and what they are?

Normal IBM part numbers for the oldest items were seven digits like:

6457150 (green 3192 terminal monitor)

Newer part number had two digits a letter and then four digits like:

83X7939 (green 3191 terminal monitor)

If you PM me, I can probably help "translate" IBM part numbers for you. Cool

Do wafers contain the same part numbers as the finished parts? If yes, then maybe this page can be useful:

There is a limited listing of part numbers, plus some contributed part numbers in the comments.

No, IBM use multiple part numbers
Silicon dies have a PN, package substrate have a PN, and finished integrated circuit assembly has also a PN.
Also, the same part can have multiple PN to make things easier Smile

A general photo of the dies can however help to guess what it is.

Glory_Cloud, if you have a IBM PN catalog, that would be most helpful!!!

That PN catalog is mostly in my head of all the old IBM items that I have
sold and some dealer websites that I have a paid subscription to where
I can search for part numbers of items available.

I don't have a spreadsheet or database of them. Sorry!
