Some years ago, I bought a lot of very early K6 233 MHz from an ex-Nexgen/AMD engineer (WW13'97, before the official K6 launch) . I gave one to John and kept the few others from the same batch in a tray. Found them again today and they really look like pre-production parts to me, even if they're not marked as ES.
