Well the Intel 8080A kit turned up and yep, the antistatic foam had formed a gooey mess on all the legs.....but after some careful work first cutting the foam around the 8080A, then soaking in acetone (causes the foam to expand, soften and break up), then carefully brushing each leg with hydrochloric acid for about an hour, I've brought it back to life.
I wasn't sure how the legs would go, but all are intact and only 1 is bent. I'm not willing to risk bending it back in place for fear of breaking the leg.
Now I am happy |

| Wow, very nice indeed. Do you have a photo of it before you started the cleaning? |

I didn't take a before shot, but it wasn't pretty. I'll take a photo of one the EPROMs in the same pack, which will show how the pins were _________________ My former Intel collection:

If the chip is plastic then soaking in acetone would be a no no? _________________ best rgds.

Think you'd have to test on a small part to see (or another of the same type of plastic). Never tried it on plastic cpus _________________ My former Intel collection:
