I have an offer to trade a chips and tech 386 25mhz of mine for a ussr 8086 clone. I am planning to do it because I thing the ussr chip is interesting and I don't really collect chips and tech I just found this one in a pc I scraped. Am I getting ripped off or is this a fair deal? I assume you know what the chips and tech looks like but here is the picture of the USSR.

I can trade your chips and tech for a ussr 8086/8088 clone in the same package but with exposed traces, which looks much cooler. Please PM me if you are interested.
Slava.

On the good advice I have definately decided not to do the trade. What's the deal with this chip though. It's like catnip for collectors. I still don't particularly like it though, I'll just set my trading sights a little higher. I collect FDIV pentiums. I have most but I do not have any engineering samples or some of the more rare examples. Those are what I am most interested in. Send me a PM it you want to trade and we'll talk. Also I am curious to know why this chip is so sought after.

I can't offer nearly so much as others at the moment, but I can tell you that I don't see that chip very often on eBay or anywhere else I've looked (I hesitate to say it's rare as that term is used too freely by some people, but I can say I would pay more for it than I would most other chips if I had the money). I'd pay at least $50 for it if I had enough disposable funds at the moment Smile

What's pitiable about collectors wanting hard to find chips? Or is it because it's not "pretty" but some of us value it just as highly because of what it is (ie the technology, not the magpie value)?

Do you think the chip is not worth it?

That's a much better trade than the Russian 8086 Smile
