More precisely, to prevent the processor running at a higher speed than what was marked. |
No, to prevent it from being SOLD at higher speed.
You can still run it at a higher speed by changing the bus |
No, to prevent it from being USED at higher speed
Intel didn't lock the bus because it's not easy to apply, not because they want to leave room for overclocking. |

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree because this is going nowhere. _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

In that case you need to spend money to get the extra performance, not by setting motherboards and mimicking to be a higher-price product. |

Or I could change the limiter in the ECU, or adjust the shift points (not costing any $$) _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

and I generally do spend money overclocking, I get a bigger heatsink/fan _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

How much do you spend on that, compared to upgrading a processor?
Changing the exhaust is like adding some memories to a computer to increase the performance. Processor is the engineering of the system. How much should you spend if you want to change your engine from 3.0L to 4.0L? |

how much time and money do you need to spend to "rebore" the engine?
Its' not what is rated counts, but what you are doing. The processor acts exactly the same as a remarked fake. |

Acts the same, and IS the same is 100% different. _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

That is a GREAT aguement!
Then how do you define "IS"? |

I look at it this way.
The latest processor can cost $100's of $ more than one that's 6 months old. If the one that is 6 months old is left looking as it was originally, and just overclocked, it ACTS the same as the new one, but it is NOT the same. If it is remarked, it ACTS and still is NOT the same, and it also is NOT the same as the new one, it is also NOT the same as the original. It has been faked so that someone is fooled into thinking that it IS the new processor. The one that has been overclocked has not been faked to con someone into paying more money, it has merely been tweaked to run at a higher speed, with the person who does the overclocking knowingly taking a risk. The one that has been faked is being overclocked with the buyer NOT knowing that they are overclocking, and potentially not cooling it adequately, and having a processor that will fail a lot sooner. That's the difference that I see.
it's the buyer who is being robbed, not the manufacturer. These days there are processors which are made in a way that allows them to be overclocked - that is part of what people buy a processor for now. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

So the problem is who fools who. If it's you fool others, that's fine. If you are fooled, then it's unacceptable. That's the human nature.
I personally don't care much about gold Pentiums, they rank very low in my collection list. What really make me sick are all those fake reasons to make up overclocking, especially right after the gold Pentium discussion. I feel enough for these. Enjoy your overclocked processors.
But please, ladies and gentlemen, don't say "they are not fakes, they just act like fakes" |
