I know I should be up to date with this, but when looking at the speed rating what is the fastest processor available on the market today , not overclocked?

2 cores each running at 2.6 Ghz

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/AMD_64_X2.html

Have a look at that and scroll to the bottom of the page to see it and the price.

lol, not interested in prices, just an answer for my customers.

So thats 5.2Ghz processor then?

nothing faster? surely Intel has a faster Dual core?

If you don't mind, can we keep this thread running so we can all keep in touch with the newest, fastest processors on the market.

no it isn't 5200mhz, just 2600, remember that a dual cpu core means it's two cpus in one, so you can do more works at the same time, like a server with various processors

Adding the two cores mhz together does not give an accurate representation of performance. At most 2 cores gives you about %180 of one core performance. Also mhz is not a good measure of performance. AMD's perform more operations per clock cycle than intel because they have a shorter pipeline. In addition other archetectural differences such as amd's integrated memory controler add up to performance differences. In short the fastest x86 proc today is the fx-60. Intel is not even close to AMD in performance they went down a dead end road with netburst archetecture and were not ready for 64 bit x86 computing when AMD put it out there. Although Intels pentium M chips are great for laptops their desktop chips are overpriced space heaters.

But aren't there different ways to measure performace?

I believe the most universal way of measuring performance is the GHz rating? no?

No. Rated speed in Ghz means nothing these days, the only way to measure performance is with benchmarking. Using a number of benchmarking tools to rate CPU performance the FX-60 comes out on top most of the time.

Here is a review on the FX-60 by a website I trust.

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/01/10/amd_athlon_64_fx-60/1.html

Even Intel who got on there high horse when other manufacturers were using PR ratings are using number codes instead of a Ghz rating.

Laughing I don't like discussion like that because it goes to anywhere. I trying to be neutral but this topic provoke very clearly to defend AMD side Very Happy

Ghz means nothing.

I think mips or flops ratings are more universal ways measuring raw performance of cpus

OK, So using this measurement, what is the fastest processor in the world?

(jeez, thought it would be such a simple question lol)

The trouble is mips or flops dont actually mean much in real world performance.

Do you only mean x86 PC processors? Or any processor?
