I just bought a new laptop as my old Samsung with Windows 7 on it is starting to give me a bit of trouble.

I was using Windows Essentials with Windows Live Mail on the Samsung but that is no longer available for download from the Microsoft Website and I hate having to pay for mail software.

I have windows 2010 home & student but that does not include outlook.

Can anyone suggest a good mail software program that will run under Windows 10 and is free or cheap?

For windows the best mail programs are Mozilla Thunderbird or, if you want something more like Outlook, eM Client.
For simple mailing the integrated mailclient in Windows 10 is also usable.

I was using outdated mail box too
.
Switched to Gmail a year ago. I cant be more happy about it.

it took me 5 hours to go around the websites i use and change the primary email address. But it was 120% worth the effort.
I strongly recommend you do the same.

You get lots of cool staff included:
1. 'Cloud drive' for 15 GB
2. Calendars with built in app for meetings (skype like)
3. Easy to create Tags and Filter system. Emails will be sorted for you.
5. Contacts list (migrate all contact to new phone in 5 seconds)
5. Great NO Spam secutiry from Google.
6. Easy to use filter options.
...

Best thing is all you need is a browser.

Mozilla Thunderbird is good for those who need a desktop e-mail client. It is even easy to set up and customize. Foremost, it is a free email application.

I was using sylpheed years ago before I switched to web interface as well. Simple and light mail client but quite functional. Not sure how actively it is developed now, last year had two releases according to their page.
