Here ya have it. Just another taster of what I ahve in my collection (if you ahven't seen them I have posted scans of some of my vintage chips in the General Discussion (Vintage chips) section).

Top of the list for me are the 2 Nx586 - one without speed marking (I think it is a P90 based on some searching I ahve done, but I'm not sure).

After that, it's between the set of K5 Gold Top (7 different models, with two different markings on the ceramic for the PR150), and the K6-2/400 ES

Regarding the Nexgen

I have this one i the library, it is named and sorted as a 110 from cpu-info.com. Im no expert on Nexgen, perhaps a check with simmayor?

Thanks

Based on what I have read at cpumuseum.de forums (message http://cpu-museum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1024&highlight=nx586&sid=9b5466b6cb48938f2d72d5f75026c57a ) it could be P90, P100, PF100 or P110. With the lot code (I think that's what the code is that starts AAi8452....) I am inclined to guess that it's relatively early, making it a P90.

Until mtx500 gets more of his research online, I'm inclined to stay with that, as when i test it it's best to test at the slowest speed it could be so I don't damage it Smile. When it first got to me, I checked a number of lot codes from his site and it seems closer to being a P90 than a P110, so my guess is based on the best information I have been able to find. It may be that nobody will ever know what the speed is on many of these unmarked Nx586 that have been separated from the original board Sad

NexGens without markings on the back are usually P90...all the others I've seen had a black printed marking on the back.

Thanks. This has no marking on the underside, so from that info you have confirmed that it is a P90. Even without confirmation, I would only have tested it as a P90 in order not to risk damaging it, but at least I can now put it on my web pages with more confidence as being a P90 Smile

I have identical and I tested it with 110 MHz - 100% stabil so I think is there a chance to say that is 110 model Smile

I watch every one that comes onto eBay. Like to see how prices change for different versions (and according to who is listing, in some cases).

Do you have one for sale? I've always liked this series of processor and would love to fill what gaps I have Smile

Mine may work at 110 or higher, but I'd rather put it down as the speed that NexGen rated it at - and that can best be determined by comparing the lot number with known identical chips that are on an original board and haven't had the sttings altered. Unfortuantely the largest collection of NexGen info I know about is in a priate collection with someone who doesn't have the time to work on updating his site (hint, hint - if you read this you know who you are, Herbert... LOL). If there is another online resource for NeXgen related info that anyone knows about, please let me know about it Smile

110MHz? Impossible...the mainboard cache chips can not sustain such a speed. As PR110 maybe.

I have around 10 NexGens with motherboard, and from that I can say that all the chips I've seen from P100+ have the speed indicated on the back. All the P80 have a marking too. Only the P90 with a large heatspreader usually don't have markings.

Thanks Minuteman. I didn't know about the speed being marked on the back of all other Nx586. At least now it will show up in a forum search Smile I have only the one motherboard so far (I'm looking forward to getting my test area cleared - nearly there, just 20-30 more PCs to strip down or move out of the way, and maybe a week of shifting stuff round and dithering...).

I think the reference to 110MHz is just how most people look at PR ratings - sometimes it's said without thinking Smile

Look at my avatar, I have a PF-110. 50% are PR100..you are dreaming :p
The most common are P90 - P80 - P100 and the rest ending with the floating point ones...

I've never thought about percentages - I only know that when i see one I don't have I will either watch or bid (or both), and that each time I get one I didn't already have I'll be happy about it (as with many of my chips - I was never not happy to have bought a chip that was as described).

Of course, if the elusive Nx686 ever turns up, it'll go on my list of reasons to sell the neighbours house Smile

Hi,

The Picture shown from my collection has P110 stamped on the back.

About those percentages, i would say that there are definately more P90 than any other speed grades.

Very nice! Does anyone know if these were stamped by NexGen or an OEM of NexGen based systems? It seems there are some stamped and some not stamped.

I agree, there are more P90's than any other speed (if you include all NexGens). But what about large silver heat spreader units with no performance number print?

It may be a P90, P100 or P110

My P100 doesn't got anything on its back

Nx586-XXXX-4.0-CPC-202
AAR4127 P23009GL P34008XR

It come with the original board, assuming no one ever fiddle with the jumper it was set at P100 and the chip runs fine with that setting
