Hi all,

Anybody got some photos of PII/III Xeons with the plastic case removed? I am especially curious to see the 2MB version with 4(?) cache dies? And also off course the Coppermine parts with 256, 1024 or 2048 kb.

Looking forward to see them Smile

I see the 256Kb cache version has some kind of terminal attachment on each of these existing board that are normally have larger cache Smile

It would be nice to see the other side of these bare board here Smile

It could be voltage regulators - especially taken into account the 12 Volt designation of these parts? Or does the "12V" mean something else?

*Edit: apparently they are on both the 2.8V and the 5-12V parts... icon_help

Was I wrong, when I thought that 2M parts had cache on the backside of the board as well? Just got my SL3DB and was surprised that there is only cache on the processor core's side ..

Tanner used two types of cache chips: 512KB (with metal lid) and 1MB (with bare die).
With second type chips only two are enough for 2MB.

I have two PII Xeon, the frequency model is very close, but the internal structure is very different.

Pentium III Xeon 700/100/2M SL49S
Pentium III Xeon 700/100/1M SL49P

Are you shure about the sspec on the top one? Doesn't look like a Cascades (which should have the L2 cache on-die).
