Hi, if you were me, which would you buy between i9-7900X and Ryzen Threadripper 1950X for video editing? And ... in your opinion which could possibly give more problems?
Thanks |

Realistically, you should have no problems with either.
The new Intel errata might be a problem.
If it were me, Threadripper. |

| Thanks for your reply. Almost all the people is telling me "If it were me, Threadripper" but almost nobody buy it. I make video editing and in the editing forums all write "Threadripper" is better but then they buy Intel. Very strange! Maybe is Threadripper better for videoediting? |

| It's a cost thing. Threadripper isn't cheap. |

You should look if Xeons are in your range of interest.
Sometimes you can get a whole system on cheap and have very decent performance.
I'd go for TR too. |

As long as you're not limited to low thread count applications, the 1950X is undoubtedly the better chip. I've been looking at a 2990WX for my next build, as the new i9's are just absolute power guzzlers. Almost feels like we're coming full circle with late NetBurst P4's again. For the price I feel like the 1950X is a much better deal, just keep an eye out on motherboard prices. Apparently the 1950X overclocks pretty well too, assuming your cooling is capable.
I would HIGHLY encourage you to overclock whichever of the two you get regardless. Of course stability would be your primary concern with Video Rendering, but a 10% overclock on a 1950X is massive when you compare it to any of the lesser chips (10% more of 16 cores = 16% more of 10 cores). |
