|
|
Hi guys,
we have an big project planned here in Austria to create an interesting and thrilling museum of semiconductor developing, production and the history behind.
We are thinking abt a NEW concept for a museum. Not like the typical stuff as cupboards and dusty parts with some description.
The idea is to create something new to get a nice view of the history and the stories behind milestep related parts as well as inspiring people, studends, kids for the semiconductor industry.
We would like to inspire younger generation to work for semiconductor manufactures at development side as well satisfying experienced pple by visiting this museum.
We would also like to collect informations and wishes from communities like here to be able to create really sthg. outstanding!
So my question to you is:
* what would you like to see, experience or expect at a semiconductor history / developing museum except a glass cupboard with chips inside.
* do you have sthg in your mind what could "thrill" or inspire pple. inside a museum related to semiconductor developing / production?
* what persons in history were from your opinion the most future influencing ones?
* which technologies, inventions or dedicated parts were most influencing the semiconductor and computing history and future?
We would appreciate a lot to get any nice feedback from the collectors side and of course we want to consider your useful input.
Thank you very much.
Peter

A good idea.
If it will be besides a visual museum same a virtual museum, then probably the experience of Andrey Rubtsov with his museum on the website will be helpful: http://www.155la3.ru/ _________________ WTB List / Trade List |

It will not be byside a virtual museum. It is going to be a real physically existing museum for pple to enter...... _________________ INTEL CPU´s, Peripheral,Ram,Eprom... & many Datasheets @ www.cpu-galaxy.at |

| At least one easy and hopefully interesting thing is to let people see inside chips with freely usable die shots taken by me, Fritzchens Fritz and others. Might be interesting to see pics of the hidden die together with actual chips or boards. We now have nice die shots from the very first CPUs up to Ryzen and Kaby Lake, so it's possible to show die of every chip in museum unlike some years ago. I don't know whether any museum displays die shots so far, but they might be more interesting than plastic or ceramic chip packages with some markings on them. Maybe you could show chips together with die shots and interesting information about why they're significant. |

Show how the chips are made, should be possible to get some old equipment donated so they can see how the mask is used to shine light on the wafer etc
People always ask , how do they get them so small, so need to show them _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

Agree ! And also show how the chips work. In a way that a child could understand it. I still regret that school doesn't teach it, while most of the world use it everyday... |

already some nice input. waiting for more replies.
I will go trough your suggestions in the next meeting together with
the CEO of Infineon next week.

how about comparing old vs new?
Placing an old huge CPU/HDD on one side and new tiny ones on another with the same parameters?
And when we talk abt young people... what age is it exactly? 8? 16? 20?
In NY a Museum of mathematics is clearly for 6-10 year olds... _________________ !Ch@nge_Me! |

I'm always interested on where and how much the vintage cpus bought from.
Buying history for vintage cpus would be great for me or other people has the same question about how the collector get their vintage cpus. |

That's awesome!
Should you need wafers, die trays, or high resolution die photos, I'd be happy to donate stuff that you may need. |

I can only take about 10 megapixel pics but aberco can get higher resolution by stacking multiple pics, especially for larger dies. My pics are usually more colorful, though, so to properly use higher resolution pics you'll need large display size.
I have many open chips with dies visible and I could sell or donate some if they're needed there. I don't want to keep any chips here, and opened ones might also be interesting items to display together with nice die shots. |

First of all, I would like to congratulate you on this initiative.
In my opinion, this is not easy to implement. I am trying to organize a similar exhibition also, (I have almost a year of preparation, but that’s only for to a temporary exhibition).
In order to introduce the public into this history of semiconductors it is important to have something to use as the starting point, to build a story. For the exhibition I'm preparing, I'm trying to exemplify the needs for helping people in making mathematical calculations over the time, starting with the first simple instruments, such as using the first abacus/suanpan/soroban and other simple adding machines (arithmometer) they have used to perform mathematical calculations. The exhibition may contain some examples of mechanical calculators, and after that introduction on the invention of the transistor, with some examples of first equipment’s that implement it, as the hearing aids, transistor radios. One step ahead and we need to show utilization of transistors in office calculators/computers, the invention of the first integrated circuits, and as a next step, by increasing complexity of integrated circuits, the use of IC’s in pocket computers, integration of all the functions into a single integrated circuit, etc. Each step can be supported by examples of technological implementation, macro photos for the first transistors, wafers with the first integrated circuits, development of memory circuits and so on. An important aspect of the exhibition is the introduction of the public into the atmosphere, by using old billboards and magazine prints ads, to suggest the technological impact for that time. |
