Every so often I temporarily disable my ad blocker and look at a random page on cpu-world.com and observe the results. My "Web browsing" computer is an i3, 3.4 ghz 3000 series Ivy Bridge. Just having a cpu info page open on this website, normally with ad blocker on is very low cpu usage on this system, about 15% or so overall. But when I disable the ad blocker and view the page normally, the multiple animated flash ads your site uses causes cpu usage on this system to jump up to 75% - 80% over all threads just to view a cpu page here.
I would happily disable my ad blocker if you would use simple ads that were non-intrusive. I don't care if these ads you use are html5 or flash, but these resource-intensive, animated ads on your site are terrible. It makes it so I almost can't even scroll up/down a page here without visual "lag", just trying to scroll down the page.
And no it's not my system being slow, I have no issue browsing 90% of the rest of the internet with this system, it's just your website and these types of ads you chose to use here.
If you would offer some sort of subscription service, like say $5/year or something like that to browse the site ad-free, I would happily pay it and subscribe to it. Some alternative, some how. But until something changes, the ad blocker stays on.
I've found a way to defeat your "hide the website until we load ads" BS via a custom tapermonkey script. And I'll continue using it combined with my ad blocker until such a time as you decide to use better ads here, or come up with some sort of alternative. |
