I want to upgrade my PVI-486SP3 to 512 KB cache, but don't know any part numbers to search for. Does anyone have any part numbers for 32-pin skinny DIP 1Mbit (128K x 8-bit) sram chips @ 15ns?

I'm still trying to get it up and running - sadly with the CPU and RAM it came with it doesn't boot, and not sure yet what the problem is. Got a small pile of 72-pin FPM RAM and AMD 5x86-133 to test.

Those boards often came with Winbond chips like the W24M512AK-15 or W24M257AK-20

I haven't seen one running the 128kx8x4 configuration, but the internet suggests Winbond made a 128x8 15ns called W241024AK-15

From memory, you'll may also need look at a new tag chip depending on which chips came with your board.

I have checked, and all 256 KB and 512 MB configurations on this board use the same 32 KB tag ram. One of my boards has 8 x 32 KB, the other has 4 x 64 KB.

Cheap and easy to find on ebay: IS61C1024
10, 12, 15 ns speed grades.
All are from China though.
Bettrer to buy some extra and test before use.

Thanks. I found the parts I need based on that part number. They are about four times cheaper than the W24M512AK-15 parts. Can't buy yet, but they have plenty and I will be able to afford double what I need when I can afford them.

Did you try it with a different CPU?

I will be trying a couple of different CPUs (I have plenty) and different RAM tomorrow. Would have done it already, but been unwell. If I have to, I also have an earlier revision of the same board to try as well.

Hopefully you will be better soon.

I used to work in a computer repair shop, sometimes all it needed to make it work was a CPU swap.
