Hi guys,
What would you say is it a 386/387 -> 486DX adapter ?
Isn't it better to use just original 486DX ?
Will it run at standart 486 mobo ? _________________ My Want List: http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22729

| Btw, why don't you give it a try in a standard 486 mobo |

I think its for a 386/486 hybrid mobo like OPTi495 chipset ones but this way try to save some place. Did you try it finally?
If you plan to sell it im interesting about this even without the FPU. |

| You'll only know by trying it, but I've tried something like this in a standard 486 MB before without success. It worked fine with the board it came with. It was too long ago for me to remember the specifics though sorry. |

Should not work in standard 486 board because of clocking: 386 needs x2 clock frequency (vs bus clock frequency)
and 486 needs x1 (there are mobile 486 with x2 but it's another story).
This adapter does not contain clock doubler. |

Pretty much every 486 I've ever seen that used crystal oscillators for the clock signal used one that is twice the bus frequency of the CPU. It shouldn't be an issue, especially when you consider there are many hybrid boards out there that do not have this issue.
I would imagine whatever board this module was intended for, a lot of jumpers would need to be set. 386s are not 486 bus compatible. |

Very interesting interposer board, albiet of limited usefulness. I wonder if it will work at half frequency in a non-intending 486 motherboard. _________________ The only thing I hate more than straightening CPU pins is having CPU's with bent pins in my collection. |
