If I can correct a little bit: The chips from GDR don't wear the name GDR Chip XX. They are better called MME 80 CPU. MME is the abbrevation of VEB Mikroelektronik Karl-Marx Erfurt. Some ealier chips are marked with FWE (Funkwerk Erfurt). The same is valid for ZMD (Zentrum für Mikroelektronik Dresden). A simple GDR is not correct  |

I agree, putting country name together with chip name is misleading. At the same time I don't want to call them just MME/WFE/ZMD <part number> (and similar with Soviet chips) because I suspect these are exactly the same processors produced on different fabs. To me it's like listing Intel processors as Intel Malaysia Fab xxxx, Intel Hong Kong Fab xxx, etc. Another problem is that I use automated scripts to build HTML pages, and they sort/group things based on manufacturer and part number, therefore "MME xxx" won't be even close to "WFE xxx" on the page. Putting country name and fab name together may be a good compromize, for example "[DDR] MME UB880D", or "[DDR] UB880D" and then list fab name in the description.

| I don't think that these are the same chips. The Russian one's wasn't very beloved to used, as I know, because they mostly didn't run stable. I don't head this from MME IC's. |

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant the chips produced by MME, WFE and ZMD could be the same chip designed and/or reverse engineered by East German engineers, and that's the reason why I didn't want to separate them. The same is true for Soviet chips, but of course their chips were different from East German chips.

| Yes, of course they are the same... FWE was the predessor of MME. ZMD didn't made any processor clones that was also made by MME. ZMD only made special chips... |
