Hi, I recently came across this Rise MP6 BGA CPU.

Any chance this can be used with a BGA - to - PGA 296-pin adapter - assuming anyone tried this? so that it can be used with a Socket 7 motherboard.

Thanks

It can be soldered to the same adaptor many slower mP6 have been sold with. If you have a spare chip, I could give it a try.

Looking for the common Rise MP6 ones, so that I can sacrifice/experiment with one at some stage Smile

But I was thinking if there are any suitable NOS BGA-to-PGA adapters for Socket 7 (as used by Rise) that can be used - and then using the spec document to figure where each pin is soldered.

I came across this PGA adapter which might be cleaner and less pricey than sacrificing a good MP6 266 Smile

Postage to US seems to be around 20$, was thinking to order one or two adaptors for myself with postage to AVICC.

If anyone else interested to share the postage costs, drop a message.

Are you sure about that what you need for BGA Rise ? You have paste a link to low insertion force socket not for mounting BGA chip on it.

There is no standard BGA layout for Socket 7 processors, so who knows what Rise has used.

It is written in the datasheet :

http://datasheets.chipdb.org/Rise/mP6_iDragon/kirin_ds.pdf

PGA pinout = page 13&14
BGA pinout = page 18

Some work to link the two and route a custom interposer, but nothing impossible.
Not sure if it can work without soldering, just by applying an effort on the BGA chip.

Interposer pcb should be easy (and cheap) to make, but the problem is how to solder pins to it.
