|
|
I am sharing some experience on fixing CPU pins over the years. Pins are usually fixed before I put the CPU in my collection.
This is a Pentium Pro CPU from smithy's sale.
Pins are well bent when it comes.
It takes me about 30 minutes to restore all pins and fit CPU into the Socket. _________________ Want List

I'm using a mechanical pencil with 0.5 dia. So you can fix my/your pins exactly to the old position.

Haha, i am about to share.
This is the tool set I used to restore pins.
1.Flat nose pliers
Used to fix pins with big gap, to ensure pins are aligned with each other. Ideal for DIP, 186 - 486 ranges and of course pentium pro.
2. Steel Ruler
Straighten slightly bent pins with small gap, align pin arrays without breaking pins, suitable for CPUs like Pentium & K6
3. Elbow & Flat head Tweezers
Used for make gaps between pins for plier and ruler _________________ Want List

Yeh, all pins are straightened of that CPU, that’s how the CPU could fit into the socket8 socket. _________________ Want List

I use a knife with a blade less than 1mm thick and a needle. Tried other tools in the past, but it was less comfortable and took more time.
The PPro pictured doesn't look that bad. Would take me about 15 minutes to restore.
If a pin is really jammed which doesn't happen often, I have to use slanted tweezers.
