Has anyone seen this print on a AMD 386 before? Also the chip is missing its pins but it does not seem that they where cut of since there are absolutely no marks or scratches on the sides. I had some PQFP:s and tried not to damage it but there where ugly scratches on it. Specially when scanned in the resolution below.

Is it some form of prototype perhaps? Marcin do you have any history around it (its the one i got from u)?

I would say that it used to ahve pins and they were cut off, but it has to be the most surgical (precise) cutting I've ever seen! It looks like a standard Rev D NG80386 to me, other than the obvious missing pins.

I've seen a few listed in that condition recently on eBay. Haven't watched them to see if they sell or not, but at least they will never have bent pins Smile This one has been so well cut it's easy to see why you think there were never pins on it. I'm not surprised at the pins being cut, but I am surprised at how well it was done - even if i will never understand why someone does that Smile

Then is the question, why would anyone surgically remove the legs on an old 386?

Edit: Have u seen the same print also?

Ihadn't noticed - I just checked my collection and the three that I have don't have the windows logo on them. All are Rev D, so that is a new one to me, I jsut hadn't realised until I checked Smile Even though I wouldn't buy it without pins without having some history on it, I do agree that it is a nice chip (if only because it is a new marking that I haven't seen..)

To make a keychain of it, I'm absolutely sure. Done this myself some three years ago.

I think some people find that pqfp without legs are better than pqfp on pcb, or pqfp badly desoldered or with missing pin...

It's a ordinary version of NG80386DX-40. How many of them do you want? Of course with all legs, like new. Smile
