| Cpu-z latest crashes. An earlier version works, but shows very little info. |

Adding a few more apps/tools to the list.
Working:
2D Benchmark
CPUMark 99
3DWinbench 97
Wintune 98 - test for CPU hangs regardless of using IDON or Winn tool
Crystal CPUID works, but shows little info
Roadkill disk speed 2.0
Total commander 6
Not working:
CPU Benchmark
MDK demo - 486 type CPU detected, game will not start
StarCraft - no Pentium class processor detected, will not start. With win tool, error goes away - but then my video card is to blame for game not starting. |

Did you try CPU-Z 1.57?
I'm surprised Sandra99 worked for you. Hmm... I will try that one again.
Did you try Imaging, which comes with Windows?
Do you have any of the other programs on my not working list to try? |

I've read somewhere in a forum many years ago that some russion hackers wanted to re-write hypercode to emulate all opcodes as FORTH byte code, i.e. make the Nx586 a FORTH machine instead of Intel Architecture CPU. But I never got more info about that. Nice idea, though.
| feipoa wrote: | | My ISA network card works as expected. Which network card were you using? |
ISA 3Com 3C509-COMBO. The problem is not the network card itself, but when I access the network from the Nx586 PC running Windows 98SE, my ADSL router (AVM FritzBox WLAN 3270) crashes and reboots.

Is this the case with all PCB revisions? Did any of them come with a PS/2 mouse mini-DIN? |
I read about that soldering option only recently. No, I did not see any NexGen motherboard with PS/2.

In the BIOS, there is the option to set IRQ's to either 'ISA' or 'Auto'. I have IRQ 12 set to Auto. I wish there was a 'PCI' option. |
Sorry, I have no info on that.
But the recent interest in Nx586 reminded me to bring a bit more info on my website. New page: http://www.memotech.franken.de/NexGen/Opcode0F55.html
This is condensed from reverse engineering the hypercode within the BIOS. The relevant source file is http://www.memotech.franken.de/cgi-bin/AsmColor.cgi?f=../NexGen/Source/INVOP.ASM. |

Everest also crashes for me.
Windows Imaging tool works, just tested it - opened a few images.
Will try the other ones.
Sandra99 hangs for MMX tests, but other benchmarks work, system info, etc. |

mtx500 - that would bother me to the point of buying a new router. In fact, my existing router, the Nighthawk R7000 was not working with Win95c. I complained to Netgear enough times and had to do all their testing for them, but they eventually fixed the issue. It took about 6 months.
vmr_ - Are you using just IDON.com, or IDON.com + alternate instructions? I wonder why your system isn't having the same issues with MSVCIRT.DLL . Is it possible to disable the FPU on the PF110? |

I have replaced the Win95c MSVCIRT.DLL file with the MSVCIRT.DLL file from Win98SE and I am now able to open the programs which have errors associated with MSVCIRT.DLL
I'm not sure what errors this will bring in other software - anyone know? |

| Just alternate instructions by default. IDON only when I find anything crashing, then I try it with IDON or the win one. |

| I'm just running idon.com now. It seems to be the least problematic. I'd like to experiment with NT 3.51, but if its like NT4, I cannot run DOS/Win9x drivers, so... |

I've run a few games to see if they work. I wanted to run more but ran out of time. The following games ran on my PF110 system running Win95c:
Abuse
Win Quake
GLQuake
Quake II
Battlezone
Blood
Carmegeddon (in DOS, not Windows)
Command and Conquer
Commander Keen 5 (in DOS, not Windows)
Dark Forces 2
Descent 3dfx patch
Descent III
Diablo
DoomGL
Duke Nukem 3D
Forsaken
Grant Theft Auto
Warcraft II
MDK
Heretic
HereticGL
Hexen
HexenGL
Hexen II
X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter
Unreal
X-COM Apocalypse
Outlaws
Total Annihilation
Starcraft
Starcraft Blood War
Descent II (but not 3dfx version)
Tomb Raider Unfinished Business
Tomb Raider III
Oregon Trail II
Moto Racer
Interstate '76
Mechwarrior 2 31st Century Combat
Mech warrior 2 Mercenairies (but hangs on game exit)
Incoming
Jet Fighter III
Magic Carpet II
Master of Orion II
Need for Speed
Need for Speed II
Rise of the Triad
Settlers II
Subspace
Turok 2
The following games didn't run, but run on my IBM 5x86c-133:
Half-Life - game freezes
Tomb Raider - causes system to restart
Resident Evil 1 & 2 - screen goes blank
Raptor - DOS error
Turok - hangs during game loading
After testing all these games, my system is having trouble shutting down. Explorer gets caught up and won't shut down with pressing the power button. Is there any way to get it to shut down properly when this occurs? I was running IDON.com only. |

Slightly offtopic. Has anyone this book:

| No, but I'm guessing AMD received a copy of that before buying out NexGen? |

| I have discovered what was causing Explorer to hang-up upon shutdown of Win95c when using IDON or AlternateInstructions. Explorer will hang if I have a disc inserted into the CD-ROM drive. I need to remove the disc before proceeding to shutdown. If I do not use IDON or AlternateInstructions, I can leave the disc inserted in the drive at shutdown. Anyone know of a workaround for this, that is, aside from having to eject the disc? |
