I can confirm that Windows NT 3.51 Workstation installs on my NexGen Nx586 PF110. I do not need to set Alternate Instructions.
Finding drivers might be a problem. For the most part, do NT4 drivers work on NT 3.51? |

It depends, VGA drivers probably not. For what drivers are you looking? |

Two days ago the router stopped working .. it is alive but can't get a DSL connection. I now have the previous one in place (just a few weeks ago I wanted to throw it away because it was collecting dust and noone needs that old stuff anymore - phew!). Time for a brand new one, but no hurry because the very old one works. |

Frankly, I have no idea why there should be any connection between these things. |

I asume, you mean Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer? Maybe it needs to terminate connection with the drive to assure no file handles are open, before shutdown .. |

| The Matrox website contains some Windows NT 3.5 drivers. They seem generic and do not specify which graphic card they are for. Well, I tried to install them in Win NT 3.51, which contains a Matrox G200, but upon reboot, I receive a BSOD (shown). Using VGA mode didn't help, neither did AlternateInstructions. In Win 3.11, when this happens, you go to C:\Windows\setup and remove the offending video driver, but NT 3.51 doesn't have this feature. I'm going to have a big learning curve on this OS, so far, it is even more particular than NT 4.0. |

Yeah, that's the one, I call "Windows Explorer". File manager, start menu etc. |

| Is explorer.exe just for Windows Explorer? I thought explorer.exe was also responsible for the task bar and some other operations? |

Maybe you can try to run setup again and repair the installation. You can always try the VBEMP NT driver: http://www.navozhdeniye.narod.ru/vbemp.htm |

Have you tried exchange CD-ROM drive or CD? _________________ Looking For Chips 386 J38605DX, Symphony FPU, Rise Tiger, MP6-II, Winchip 3&4, IDT C6-Early Logo, Nx686, Tesla 8088, L80C86, Bulgarian 8088, Pentium 4 QT69ES. |

Did you tried older drivers from their FTP?

Nope, but I will try v2.51. I had tried v2.10.
For every failure, though, I need to reinstall the OS. If I can't get the NT 3.5 drivers working, I'll try the NT4 drivers. My NT4 Promise IDE drivers appear to work. |

Thanks for your help - v2.51 of the Matrox drivers worked!
Now I'm trying to get my IBM 10/100 ISA card working, which is proving a challenge. I remember always having problems with this card in Windows 3.11; NT 3.51 so far is having the same problems. Win95c is fine though. |
