Hi, today I wanted to ship a chip tracked to Japan.
All time that was about 6 €.
Today it is 46,99 €.

Deutsche Post does no longer allow goods to be shipped as letters.
The only option now is Päckchen, untracked or Paket, tracked.

For the USA untracked is 15,89 € and tracked is 46,99 € which equals today $ 41.93.

That change was made, so I learnt, 1st of January 2019.

I googled a bit and many people complain, all the small private sellers and micro businesses are in huge trouble.

That huge price of course just applies to private people. Companies still have a cheap option.

There seems to be an option to register at Deutsche Post as a business, but also then there's a minimum to ship and a complicated system to get the necessary address form. I read they require f.ex. telephone number plus email from both seller and buyer although it is not printed on the final form (and void to DSGVO/GDPA?).

Others got their parcels back as a provided address did not suit their requirements. We all know, foreign countries have different address formats and when I just look at this address in Japan I have almost no clue what is the street, the apartment or the zip lol

It is under observation by German Netzagentur, hopefully it will be rolled back soon, a petition is running which I signed.

Otherwise it seems we need a German AVICC too.

Any comments or deeper knowledge from Germans here?

Interestingly USPS has technically done this too
First Class letter international is documents only for the last year)

That being said as long as it looks like an envelope (bubble mailers are envelopes) they havent cared what I stick in it LOL

I can shove a nice size box in an envelope and ship it and it works, been saving AVICC members a ton of $$ this way

Is it easier in a nearby EU country? like shipping everything from France or Austria or ?

That‘s to be investigated.
Today thes shook the envelope and bent it. So the hard thing was to be identified.
Books are prohibited too.
Seems I need to figure out a cheating method.
But btw that way insurance died. You can track but when its lost you get nothing.

USPS still follows International Postal Union rules from the 1800s. These say anything under 4lbs i a letter and not to be tracked.

So anything under 4lbs the USPS will not look for if its lost. Its sometimes (mostly now) tracked but this they say is an accident, as the rules say dont so it LOL

Russian Post also raised prices for international parcels from this month by 10%. But this is still tolerable. Also began to require telephone numbers of the sender and the recipient. All shipments abroad are tracked. But if parcel is lost, then only return shipping costs will be returned. If you need insurance then sending only EMS, and it is expensive.

In France, some years ago, they were quite hard with the letters. They wanted only papers into it, and were checking for hard objects to make you pay a package shipping, more expansive. For some years, they changed and they allow smal objects (less than 3 cm height) in letters.

Anyway, they increase the shipping every year, and it is quite expensive even to ship nationallly... I bought in China some objects with free shipping, costing less than the price to send a letter (20g) in France...

Polish Post does currently do not have limits like above but officially registered mail even inside country is dedicated to only documents. Everyone ignore this and sends everything to not exceed 2KG. If your registered letter will be lost than you get refund for parcell not for content.

All countries in the world are connected with their agreements and price lists. If many increases will happen then polish charges will go up too. When I send letter to Germany the part of charge is for polish service and second part is for german post. If german post is getting so expensive then soon I will pay for that too.

Welcome to Australian international parcel charges, now propagating throughout the rest of the world!

Even sending a single chip to Germany now costs $15 with no tracking. If you want tracking it is $20+...for something that weighs about 50g

That is sad... Why on earth is international shipping still so expensive in 2019, and they even have the nerve to make it even more costly -_- ...

Feel sorry for German sellers Neutral ...

Oh, that's why parts from Germany on eBay suddenly got that expensive in shipping costs Crying or Very sad

In Denmark, "PostNord" the nordic Post company is also very high priced. Shipping from one end of the country to the other (less than 700 km) is often less expensive by using e.g. GLS (which as far as I know also operate in Germany?)

Yesterday, in the press, we also wrote that tariffs for international mail were increasing. Apparently this is a widespread trend.

strange is the so-called reason. Letters containing goods cannot be sorted by machines as letters with documents.

So they prohibit goods.
Instead require flat packages.

What if I ask money for my documents, then they are goods in terms of Deutsche Post lol

When I now cheated them by making a thick flat envelope I was asked, "Does this letter contain documents?" - To answer this I am required to stick away from the postal secret which is a law in Germany and many other countries.
Nobody has the right to know what I am sending.
Of course the answer was yes and final.

Kinda Stasi-approach Deutsche Post puts on the postal office employees.

I cannot believe this rule will last for long.

Btw weight is almost irrelevant as a tracked Paket for 46,99€ may weight 2kg which is some hundred chips of the kind I was offering lol
