|
I have Gigabyte GA486AM/S motherboard with two integrated IDE channels. No problem with recognizing HDD in each channel but I cann't get optical storage to be found. Tried different old cdrw / dvdrom with different IDE cables, updated BIOS to latest version ... still no luck. I think I tried all BIOS combinations from default to Enable / Disable IDE/HDD options.
It was normal in 486 era ? _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Not sure about this particular board, but some 486 systems won't support CD-ROMs. I mean they won't get detected. But if you driver it correctly they'll still work inside OS |

Currently installing Win 95 OSR and will check if I can fix it by auto drivers in OS.
EDIT. After installation of Win95 is completed I see optical storage in My Computer. Not shown in BIOS and POST is handled by Windows nice _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Hello,
the ROMs wonīt show in BIOS. Normally 486 couldnīt mount CD ROMS, but this Chipset can do.
Under DOS, you need commands in Config.sys and Mscdex in autoexec.bat.
Is anyone there, how can send me a link for the latest BIOS-update?
My BIOS seems to be corropted.
Thx |

Removable storage is ATAPI, not ATA. Has to be additional support for this in BIOS. The ATAPI spec was drafted in 1998. _________________ My Active Sales |
