Hey everyone.
At work today, I found a very sad looking motherboard missing a socket. I found the heatsink rolling around in the case, lo and behold, the CPU was still retained along with the socket!
I've never found a socket A Geode chip before, so I grabbed it.
I'm looking around online, and the part number is not coming up with many results, (I see a lot for Geode 2001 chips, but almost nothing for 2000) so I figured this would be the best place to ask.
Also noticed it was the second chip made in the batch, so that's pretty neato.
Have I stumbled upon something interesting?

I think I'm going to keep this one for now.
I have a socket A motherboard I'm working on repairing, so I'll try to get a CPUID uploaded to the database this week. |

The part number indicates it is 1.40V and only 4W.
It will be interesting to learn whether it has the same 13.5x multiplier as the Geode NX 2001, or is different. |

Fixed my board, got the geode running!
The motherboard doesn't seem to know what to do with it. It loads the minimum clock multiplier by default.
It appears to have an unlocked multiplier. (I think this is the norm for Geode NX chips?)
The CPU text identifies it as a mobile Athlon 4 processor, which is unlike how the NX 2001 seems to report itself.
I am going to try to get a CPUID uploaded today. |

Normal pending board and bios used.
They are just like XP mobiles. |

The board is an ABIT NF7-M. The pictures were taken with bios v21. The board has been updated to bios v28. The board now recognizes the CPU as "Unknown CPU Type 1800MHz"
I have also manually set the multiplier to values above the new 13.5x default, and it seems to POST fine.
I'm working on getting an XP install running at the moment. (gotta find a spare IDE drive) |

Got XP installed.
This is what is shown with the current BIOS options. This is with the multiplier explicitly set to 13.5x and bus to 133.
The board seems to have issues loading the default config for the processor. (1500+ for some reason? Might be a motherboard bios limitation or something)

I went back into work yesterday to get more information on the machine this chip came out of (In case any of you collectors want to try and find one for yourself).
It was a Xerox ZOC-2. Seems to be some sort of embedded printer controller thing.
I've attached a pic of the remains of the unit we had, along with the model information.
There seem to be a few available on eBay right now, but I've got no idea if they are using the exact same processor as the one I found. |
