I happened across this not long ago. I belive it is an oem Intel but I have no idea what company the rebadger is or even if I'm right. The top, which has a heatsink that looks like an overdrive heatsink, does not appear to have been sanded or refinished before being stamped with the crude markings you see. If anyone has come across something like this or knows more about it give a shout out.

What if you pop the heatsink off and show us whatever is under it? _________________ Collecting soviet and western CPUs once again -- highfive to old-timers o/ |

Aaargh! I hate the thought every time someone talks about removing a factory fitted heatsink. It's part of the retail package (at least, to me it is). Mind you, I suppose there is no way of knowing if it was fittted at the factory or if it is an OEM add-on... _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

I agree with debs, there is no way I'm popping off that heatsink. Beyond that, the heatsink is clearly intel manufacture as is the chip. I tend to belive for this reason that the heatsink and chip left the fab together. Either way there is nothing under the heasink that would tell me who the rebadger was. Either intel markings are their or none at all.

Dear oh dear. This won't be a replica - and the reason people want to see what is under it - is pure curiosity, not to check if it's real or not _________________ 4000+ chips.

good way to check fakes is to pull the cpu id code.. u can also test advanced features of the chip. Its not 100% and it relies on known chips, but it makes producing fakes very difficult. I am just really getting into it with all my ES's.

It's not a fake or "ebay special" I got it at the scrap yard. (unfortunately it was already seperated from its home so I didn't get to see what it came out of) Also, I'm not sure why someone would fake an oem intel 486. Are these actualy worth something substantial?

I think I can help you with this one.
I have just broken down a couple of old Hewlett Packard 4/66 Net Servers and these are the Chips That I removed from them.
The 1st Chip is very similar to yours except that the Markings are on a Label on top of the Chip.
The Reason I show the 2nd Chip is because you can see a mirror image of the i66 stamped on the Gold Plate towards the top of the Gold Plate as Well.
Your Comments appreciated.
