Over the last few weeks there have been several auctions on that well known site that have been very high on the $$
It really boggles my mind that someone will pay nearly 1300 USD for a gold and ceramic chip. Is it only me that sees that there is something wrong there?
Yes I understand its the first CPU they produced, yes I understand its the ceramic version with GOLD!tm but really even if I had that sort of money to spend on CPU's I couldnt blow it all on that one chip.
Does anyone else feel the same? |

which means nothing or means "that is a silly question"...
I feel the same than you Hippo |
What I said makes the most sense- it only seems silly when you see chips you don't have sell for a rediculous amount of money- if you do have that chip, you'd be suprised, but by all means you wouldn't be angry that it sold for that much money.
If you think chips are going to stay cheap forever, no matter what they are, collecting isn't the right thing for you. It does seem that people who pose this question get angry about chip prices until they get all the chips they want, then the question is no longer an obstacle for them. _________________ http://www.RareCPUs.com

Hey guys.
If I ever see a black top PR266 IBM.
I will pay whatever it takes. I want it in my collection. I still will only see it in my eyesvalued at around $50 whatever I pay, but I will pay whatever it takes to get one...
Funny thing is, both me and CPUshack missed one last week
And as for a 4004 at $1300 or whatever it was - the price will only contiunue to rise like it or not.
In 5 years time, when they are selling for $4000 + you may think back to this thread...
only 5 years ago they were only selling for 50-100... now $400 seems cheap.
Waffling on a bit here - but I was brought up to believe that somethings worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. _________________ 4000+ chips.

Collecting has nothing to do with logic. So be prepared for all. Winning and loosing money. The risk is high _________________ Frank. |

Collecting is HOBBY not hazard in my opinion. For me money is need to grow up collection not to invest it on goods for future profit. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

I totally agree. I collect because I like the technology, and collecting different packages and rare variants is just an extension of that for me. Any time I make a little money and cover the cost of other chips, great, but that was never my primary reason for collecting _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.
