Hello!

I have a Texas Instruments TI486DX4-G100-GA and I don't know what's the date of building of this CPU.

I can see in the backside:

Quote:
4085977-0001

TAIWAN

Somebody can tell me how can I know the date of building of this CPU?

Thanks.

(Sorry because my english is so bad),

I'll have to reaserch this.
Can people post pics of the backsides (and fronts) of their TI's?

Just like we did for Cyrix.
Thanks

Knowing the date of building of TI's chip is meaningless. Why? Because the manufacturing, packaging and testing of those TI chips were done in three different countries.

Let me ask what those codes means for you then (if they actually mean something) Wink

knowing the dates helps track die revisions, production numbers and speeds, it also helps determine wether a CPU is faked.

OK.. according to the ex. engineer of Texas Instruments testing facility (who was resiponsible for testing this product), those codes do not have date on it. You can only look up the code from the internal system to know which wafer it's from (and then its production date).

Interesting, as I said, the manufacturing, packaging and testing of those TI chips were done in three different countries, and those chips were NOT made in Taiwan. Taiwan did the testing part and printing part.

nikko:
What fabs were the dies made in?
and were they all assembled/test in Taiwan?

Can you get me in touch with the TI engineer (interested because of my research into Cyrix)

Please see detail here: http://www.mynikko.com/CPU/Others.html (click on English flag)
"... According to a Taiwanese engineer of Texas Instruments testing facility, the core of this processor was actually manufactured in TI's own facility in Dallas, Texas, packaged by Anam Korea, and then shipped to Taiwan for final testing in Texas Instruments testing facility located at JhungHe (ZhungHe), Taipei County. This CPU was not actually manufactured in Taiwan. According to him, the yield ratio of this processor was extremely poor at the beginning. After they improved the ratio and the product finally hit the market, the clock speed was already behind other companies' products. Therefore, the sales of this chip were poor. The engineer who was in charge of testing this chip, then, switched into sales department. He is currently the general manager of sales department of semiconductor products of Texas Instruments in Taiwan. (Special Thanks to an ex. engineer of Taiwan Texas Instruments) "

I don't think he speaks English and he no longer works for TI, but I can try to ask him if you got any questions.
