https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/749-ryzen-9-3950x-beats-2000-intel-core-i9-9980xe(18-core)-in-geekbench-test.html
To summarize the article:
Geekbench was the benchmark of choice.
The early 3950X chip (seems to be running 3.3GHz to 4.3GHz, 16c/32t, around 400MHz slower than the retail spec) scored 5868 in the single-thread bench, and 61072 in the multi-threaded bench.
The retail i9-9980XE (3.00GHz-4.40GHz, 18c/36t) scored 5395 in single-thread, 46618 in multi-thread.
In this benchmark, the 3950X has a lead of roughly 8% in the single-threaded bench and a lead of ~26% in multi-threaded.
The i9-9900k still seems to be ahead in single-threaded perf due to the raw clocks it can achieve, but gets thoroughly obliterated in multi-thread by the Ryzen.
Also let's remember that the MSRP of the 3950X will be $749 and the i9-9980XE is upwards of $2000
Definitely an exciting time for AMD right now. I think I know what my next build is going to be based around.
EDIT: I don't know what version of Windows was used when the benches were run (Win10 1903 fixed some scheduler issues for Ryzen chips, meaning better perf), nor do I know if any of the Intel security patches were in place at the time of benching. This may make a significant difference in performance depending on if the patches were installed. _________________ My collection

Ooh! I might consider AMD again for my next new build (won't be this year though ) _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

We already have a 32c/64t Threadripper chip (2990WX). We'll probably hear about a 64c/128t Threadripper/EPYC closer to next year.
I don't think the AM4 package has enough space for the I/O die and 4 chiplets to hit 32 cores. _________________ My collection |

Is anyone here able to get a 3900X?
No store is still even able to ship in at least 2-4 weeks here, there is a general shortage in Switzerland for some reason -_-
Last year, it was the contrary, I got the CPU fast and the X470 1 month later... _________________ Stelo.xyz Museum (CPU Collection and more) |

Argh...
LDLC are selling the 3900X for almost CHF 100 more than where I ordered so no thanks :p
I also canceled a previous order in a dishonest store that promised wrong delivery dates... It should have come the 18 (ordered the 7/7!) but then they extended it to 4-6 days, then 2-3 weeks, then now 4-6 weeks...
There are many comments in the store about other disappointed people that canceled their orders too Lol...
We had a reason to be upset because it was either ordering a bit cheaper with unknown or much longer delivery date, or with a bigger margin and a reasonable delivery date. _________________ Stelo.xyz Museum (CPU Collection and more) |

If they could deliver for sure in 2-3 days it might be fair but the indicated 10-20 days does not justify such price increase... Even in the first case I would not pay such a premium.
I heard about Amd considering to sell directly, that would be nice... _________________ Stelo.xyz Museum (CPU Collection and more) |

Got one from AMD themselves.
Ordered as soon as it was available on 7/7.
Still in its unopened box haha, waiting for a package from EK now

Lucky!
So they actually already started to sell directly? I only see links to other retailers in their website... What link did you use to order directly? _________________ Stelo.xyz Museum (CPU Collection and more) |

I went to their site, picked up a 5700XT anniversary edition, and they proposed the 3900x automagically, so I added it to my basket and cancelled my order from another site _________________ X470 Taichi - R9 3900X - RX5700XT - 32GB |
