I am finding more and more that I forget login details, and end up reusing passwords (not the most secure ones, of course) to make them easier to remember. I need a pocket sized device that I can protect with a strong password and use solely for storing login details for a long list of sites (then I can give them all unique passwords). This has come about because of one of my less secure passwords being hacked, and suspected fraud on my credit card Sad

Can anyone recommend something that fits that basic requirement and costs as little as possible? $20 would be ideal if it's realistic Smile

I have been into PCs for so long, but never looked at other technology, so am out of my comfort zone.

You've probably already considered this, but why not an app on a mobile phone?

As a last resort I will consider using an old phone, but I would prefer a non networked device.

You could also install a password manager as a portable app on a USB flash drive. I have a tiny one on my keychain, so it goes with me everywhere. You could even put a portable version of TOR on it to ensure cookies/passwords are never stored on the computer you're using.

That is a great idea, hadn't thought of an app on a USB stick Smile Ticks all the boxes and is extremely cheap Smile

I would stick with an old fashioned way by writing down on my 3x5 index card in a box Wink

Cool! What sort of storage capacity did they typically have? That definitely ticks all the boxes if I find a good model at a better price Smile

Using that daily too .. Not Tetris though - don't have it Wink

On the fun note - on Android, there is a free Ti89 emulator. It comes without the firmware due to copyrights. BUT .. The firmware is free to download from TI's homepage, no registration, no nothing.. Cool

Perhaps way more than your $20 goal - but the mooltipass at $79 is open source and very slick.

That looks like the best option so far, and it will fit in my coin purse Smile

I use LastPass which is an online service that's just as safe as that hardware solution just mentioned and it runs on computers and phones and is WAY easier to use...

Having already had one password harvested online, I am not prepared to risk putting enough information on a website to potentially clean me out. I rarely keep anything secret, but my top priority is protecting what little I do have, and using an online password vault only needs one hacker anywhere in the world to find a way around the online security (much like how passwords are harvested off other websites).

Had a website that I had registered on for a free trial at the weekend try to bill my credit card for THREE separate payments. If the cc company hadn't flagged it as suspicious, I could have been well out of pocket. As it was, my card was just locked until they had phoned me to deal with it. I am getting more security conscious after multiple breaches Smile
