| so i have a dell inspiron n4050, i plan to upgrade the ram, hard drive and the CPU if i can. the current CPU is a i5-2410M witha rPGA-989 socket and a HM67 chipset i believe. can anyone reccomend a CPU upgrade form me? the more research i do the more confused i seem to make myself |

The best CPU that is officially supported is the 2410M. In theory, better CPUs may work, but there is also a chance they may not.
Keep in mind that Haswell/Broadwell-based laptops are getting cheaper and cheaper, so it might not be worth putting money into something so old. _________________ My WTB List

Your laptop does not have a dedicated GPU, so you will be limited to the sandy-bridge dual-core mobiles.
Upgrade-wise, the fastest CPU you can run would be the i7-2620M (SR03F).
As linuxfanatic mentioned, be sure to figure out the cost of the total upgrade and compare it to the price of a used business-class laptop. You might be able to find Haswell/4th gen (or newer) machines cheaper.
Of course, if you can manage the upgrade for cheaper than a new machine and you are happy with the N4050, then by all means upgrade away. _________________ My collection |
