|
|
| Quote: | As you may be aware, 11 new states have adopted Internet Sales Tax policies as of October 1, bringing the total to 34 states that now require the collection of sales tax. As the impact of this tax law becomes more apparent, PayPal and eBay are making changes that will make Internet Sales Tax collection less complex for buyers and for you.
Starting in November 2019, the way taxable transactions are processed and how taxes are collected for remittance will change, as follows:
In states where eBay is required to collect Internet Sales Tax from buyers, order totals sent for processing will reflect the gross order amount inclusive of tax.
Once settled, the tax amount will be automatically deducted for remittance to the applicable taxing authority.
A record of the sales tax portion of the order will be available on the Seller Hub Order details page and through our Download order report.
Please note the applicable tax will continue to be paid by the buyer and you do not need to take any action.
We understand that the holiday selling season is nearly upon us and we are working to make this transition as smooth as possible. |
And my question is that change anything when buying used items on eBay with shipping to AVICC in Oregon ? _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

They did this to Canada last year. What’s appalling about it is that it’s indiscriminate. A seller/business with less than 30K in revenue was not required to collect sales tax, because they are exempt (below the threshold). And there were certain classes of items that taxes can’t be collected on (eg, bullion and some used goods). EBay was just lazy (they are not the only ones) and just said screw it, let’s collect for all sales, and the seller can apply for a refund… somehow.
What’s worse is that larger businesses (30K+) still have to suffer eBays auto remittance system, and most accounting / GL software doesn’t distinguish between online and in-person sales. So they have no way to reconcile the difference when taxes are collected. So they buggered everyone with that. I think they even collect it if I sell to someone in Alberta, which like Oregon, didn’t collect sales tax when I last checked (which was a while ago). |

| But… the beauty of AVICC is that it bypasses this nonsense for now. Like we really need to tax an old computer chip more than once? |

What's even more fascinating, eBay charges me additional 20% VAT on their final falue fees. Which they shouldn't, because I sell on eBay U.S. and my local VAT has nothing to do with it. In general, they charge me 19% in fees if I sell anything there. Crooks they are. _________________ My Active Sales |
