What was the first processor that started your collection? If you don't remeber it then specify the first chip in your collection that was important to you.

The results should be interesting as we have people who collected chips for a few years, and collector newbies like me Smile

I wanted to add more choices to the poll but the phpBB software doesn't allow more than 10 choices.

Thanks!

I started my collecting by collecting computers but when I had 12 computers standing in my room I realized that there just wasen't room for any more and since I wanted to display my collection in some way I just had to come up with something else.
And what is the most important thing in a computer?

The CPU Exclamation

Did already have a couple of 8086 to 486 CPU's in my drawer so it was just to continue trying to get as many as possible.
Today I have 400+ CPU's and 100+ memory chips.

My collection started with a pile of 486 chips I already owned - Initially I intended to collect only 486 chips as there were not so many models around (-> http://486museum.de ), but I got so many other chips that I decided to extend my collection to some other families, too.
Regards,

My collection started in the 80s with a 6502 from an old Commodore. I've been collecting old computers for the last 6 years and since I now have more than 100 machines in my collection I ran out of storage space... so it was time to find something smaller Wink
In the last years I got some 486 and Pentium CPUs from old computers in my company and in 2002 I began to actively build up a CPU collection. It can be viewed online at http://cpu-collection.de

An AMD K6-2 550 with a severe overheat problem that caused me to pull it. It is the _ONLY_ chip in my collection that isn't in a working, booting machine, aside from some Motorola chips that I pulled from dead motherboards (Finding bare motherboards for these things is difficult to say the least)

I've even tried cooling it with a peltier - it still rapidly reaches critical temperatures. I think there's a defect involved with the heat spreader having an air bubble beneath it. Oldest CPUs are a Motorola 68020 and an AMD 386SX/SXL 25MHz, newest is an AMD Athlon XP 1900+ 1.6GHz. I have very few Intel chips - just some 486DX2's and an Overdrive 66.

I am also a begginer collector but have semi been doing it for 2 years (just pulls from customer computers) I have 21 AMD K5 200 chips in my collection and they are what I am most proud of right now. I have just started to try and get some of the older chips. Looking to buy so if you have some drop me an email at gman2@cablemo.net

Gennadiy,

Here is how to use more poll options:

Go to administration panel
Go to General Admin::Configuration
Scroll down to "User and Forum Basic Settings"
There should be a "Max number of poll options" field there... change it to whatever you want

I set the poll options to the forum I am an admin of to 25.

Hey,

My first CPU in the collection (a Siemens 8086-C) is actually a stolen good Embarassed
When I worked at a computer shop back in '85 I was heavily underpayed due to the fact I wasn't allowed to work at all (by law). So I was "hidden" in the back of the shop working for a lousy 5 DM (~$2 back then) an hour.
My private computer was -well- a C64 and a PeeCee was waaaay to expensive for a schoolboy.
But in an unwatched moment I thought a 16bit CPU would be the right start into professional computing someday... sponsered by my nice boss. Twisted Evil
It was never used since then, as my first PC (years later) was an overcloced V30@12MHz beating the crap out of my friends 286/8 Rolling Eyes

Cheers, Axl
