|
| i recently bought a new hard drive and am using my old one as a second. i used some program from the internet to format it because windows wouldn't do it. Now it works fine and everything, but now it only has 30gb available but its a 60gb hard drive. i tried everything i could think of. i though maybe the space was unallocated but it says there is no unallocated space. does anyone have any suggestions or solutions? |

It's possible you need either a BIOS upgrade or a newer motherboard that can handle the larger drive.
If your BIOS supports LBA addressing, then you might find manually setting the drive parameters to use LBA will fix it, but if not you might be out of luck. The best info I found was at
http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/bios/size.htm
You'll find various links from there which might help you. I know when I had a drive that my PC wouldn't recognise as over 30GB the only fix for me was to upgrade the motherboard (and consequently the processor), so a HD upgrade led to a PC that was 4 times as fast
Of course, the above assumes that the old drive is below 30GB and the drive you are referring to is the new one... _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

I didn't know 30GB was a limitation with soje BIOS either until I had that problem It's a 65536 cylinder problem, described on the link I posted above _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

hehe, it's an easy mistake to make, I don't remember a lot of hype about the 30GB barrier _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

exactly 32 GB is limit on most of Pentium II mobos. And most of them are fixed by latest bios as we all knows. So I can say 32 GB limit is most for Pentium I boards. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Oh for sakes !!! Don't tell people to use Partition Magic!!!
I hate it when people say that!!!
I've had so many people complain because they just didn't understand why their HDD crashed ! ---> Oh there was a message oh dear what am I going to do, it said my hard drive was full .....Now its crashing ,,,the guy at the store told me to use Partion Magic and all would be safe ...
Yeaaaright ! Freakin' IT people ! They piss me off !
U see, people that are computer illiterate (%60 of population) which is normal, will not know to keep checking every freakin' partition to make sure they don't get to full before the HDD crashes!!! Hello !!! Man !!!
I wish people would just listen...

Suave tio I use Partition Magic and if you know how to use it you will have no problems with partitions. If your HDD has crashed use a program that could read SMART values (like Speedfan) _________________ PSP Slim 3.71 M33-4 |
