I would like to know if i want to build a computer for gaming (thats not really expensive) and for regular needs like movies and music. would it be better to buy a Pentium 4 with hyper-threading or an athlon 64 x2 3800+? |

It depends on what you do. I would recomend an AMD. Never buy intel.
It depends on what you do, if you run a lot of apps at once, the Athlon X2 3800+ will do splendidly. If you run games or only a couple apps at once, you might be better served with an AMD single core.
Whatever you do, get a Socket 939 AMD. The 754 lacks dual channel memory which -does- help quite a bit.
I actually prefer Socket 940 Opteron CPUs for desktop use, but those are horridly expensive.

New tech is on the way starting from july of this year, if you can wait until then it could be worthwile.
Amd new socket, Intel better than ever cpus... a lot of movement.
If you can't wait go for amd athlon X2 socket 939 (as your wallet can afford), as already stated by other members. |

Actualy, the AMD Athlon 64 3200+ up to 4000+(excellent performance periode!) for gaming !!! There's no need to empty the pockets to go anyfurther in CPU because the software simply doesn't use that much yet...
Thats like Intel's oh so famous feature--> the shut-off feature if your chip gets to hot ! Well sir! Who cares, just put a decent cooler and good case fans and voila~! I'd rather keep gaming when I'm reaching the "big boss" then having my pc shut-off on me because it's having a Intel moment
Again, as for the AMD X2, I really don't think it's worth saying "you got the best car in the driveway, but can't afford to drive it" ...yet...

I'm here Fastest time I ever completed the expert level was about 10 seconds (did you know that if you correctly select the positions of all mines before left clicking on empty squares, the timer doesn't start counting down before the left click?). Sadly I can't remember the cheat that showed where all the mines are _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.
