Manufacture bobo?

Ya, today I found out something a little unusual..

I opened one of my old tower for fun and took the chip out (200mmx).
Now what made me take this useless chip out?...Well, by discovering that another chip I found, somewhat rare, but not really. This other chip was also sold as a "Intel 200mmx" system.(note the system was completely original from manufacture).Now, to get right to the point, I noticed it didn't say: w/MMX tm tech on the top of the chip like regular MMX's.This one only sais i200 . I then flipped them both over and seen the same result.Now I got some knowledge of chips, but if I woulda been the ones to buy these ,and open them and seen that one was MMX and the other..?... I woulda been furious ! I think the rest like me would have too!
You pay for something that sais MMX ,you want it to say MMX ! What's going on?Or what went on? Another Intel cover-up?...that every Intel enthus won't admit to?

For this answer, I need it to be someone who is not particularly an Intel fan , thanx.

I have the same CPU myself (the one with the i200 on the top). It's just a regular Pentium 200 without MMX in a PPGA package.

It looks to me like the manufacturer put a cheaper, regular Pentium 200 in the computer instead of the more expensive Pentium 200 MMX.

Am I missing something? I don't see how this is an Intel cover-up

Seems like a vendor screwing you not intel. I had a friend who used to work building and repairing pc's for a local fly by night place. Every time he fixed a pc he would pilfer all the good components and replace them with cheep stuff. I guess he figured if the consumer was to stupid to fix their pc they would not know the difference. He wasn't a very honest person that friend of mine. Our friendship ended when he tried to swipe some stuff (not pc related) from me and I caught him.

They are both standard Intel chips glin glin, both very common. Unless the computer "box" is manufactured by Intel which is very unlikely, it will be the manfacturer of the "box" that is doing the wrong.

I still stand firm on one thing, if I'd pay for MMX, I'd want it to say MMX !
I'd be pissed and I'm sure others would as well !

Heres a better exemple:

Alliant, my internet provider in my area ,is having a "great deal" on computers that you can purchase and they charge you $20-$30 a month on your phone bill for it. Now, here was the piss off, (note, this happened to me as well),My girlfriend ordered a package just to see what kinda computers they have, hummm...well it wasn't impressive ! Celeron 2.4gb with 256mb sdram ,40gb HDD....anyways, the point here is that, we got a Intel Celeron 2.4gb. My buddy ordered the same exact package, he got a Intel Celeron D ! See the problem there?We asked around and alot of people got the same mix-ups, but didn't realise it until we opened their pc's!!!
