Same than date codes in fact : front date code is always later than back date codes, because front one is for assembly, whereas back one is for die producing.
Anyway, in this last case, if we just look at the back "4" code would be for Korea, which is different from previous statements... |
Country on the back IS assembly/Test location, as thats what legally must be tracked (besides Intel has actual fabs in only a few places) |
hi John
do you means that
the country on the back is for the front FPO ( which is the way i use to read the FPO)
thx in advance!

I found two 80486 with 9 as test/manufacturing plant but written USA, at the other side assembly in FPO code begins by I.
Do you have any explanation about that? does Intel was an USA test/manufacturing plant around 1990?

The 9 on the back usually doesnt match, not sure what it is for yet
The I on the front is tied to Malaysia in 1983, its entirely possibly they reused it for a US facility in the 90's _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

Here is a picture from a Celeron 800 socket 370, labeled MALAY and FPO country code 'V'.

So I decided to bring this up again.
I went through 475 of my Intel CPU's and wrote down their FPO prefix, date code, package type, and the country of origin printed on them.
I still have over 200 to do, but i'm tired lol, so willwork on it morrow.
Needless to say it is some interesting data, and rather varied, though I think some conclusions can be drawn (namely Intel used a lot of subcontractors) _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

So will the list in the first post be amended with your data?
Thanks! |

Could use more data so maybe I can send an excel to a couple collectors to help supply data |
I would recommend Google Docs Spreadsheet if you are doing collaboration. The Pentium Timeline are being built there and i have given a few people edit access via their gmail account. OR you can open the spreadsheet for anyone to edit but only send the link to trusted collectors. Then they do not need a gmail account at all.
Then people can work on the same spreadsheet at the same time, you have control, and there are revision history so you can see what every collector has added. _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. I have location code for Intel-ZyMOS chipset which it is made from Korea:
82230-2 (Observe):
82230-2 (Reverse):
82231-2 (Observe):
82231-2 (Reverse):
Could the country code be Z for (South) Korea? |
