Hi!

I've got this i80386-16 without logo and it is very rare for me. I'd like you tell me everything you know about it and why it has not spec. number.

Is this a rare CPU?

Thanks.

Not so common now. But they do come on ebay sometimes.

here is one of mine..

The lack of sspec is not significant. I notice Intel introduced the Sspecs at the same time they started putting white logos on their chips. Look at 386 chips around 1988/1989.

I suspect the white logo was a result of a marketing/branding exercise, maybe in response to another nice looking chip from competition? I dont really collect non-intel chips, so I can't confirm this.
Maybe they wanted the chips to look nicer than the plain marked ones.. they were charging a lot of money for these cpus back then.

- looking at our two chips .. it seems the S40344 is the "sspec"?

then again.. here is another of mine without a code like that...

I don't think it's very rare, I've seen a few on eBay recently. I have this one and one with S40362. I think it is an early sSpec, although previous discussions about it here show that nobody is really sure whether it is or not Smile

Here's mine:
