I mainly use my website for keeping track of my collection on a day to day basis. I also have a excel sheet to keep track of when and where i bought them, price, datecodes and so.

I have the following collums

Mfg, Typecode, Speed, S-spec, datecode, price, bought where, bought from, bought when, and notes

I organize mine first by manufacturer and then by family. I keep my ES/MS/QS separate.

I use a simple database program on PalmPilot. If necessary I can export the database to a CSV file on my computer. The fields in this database are:

Family, Manuf, Speed, Part number, Quantity, Type, Price

I created speed column when I started collecting, right now it's useless for me. I keep comments in the "Part number" field, ideally it'd be nice to put them into a separate column. Type is a chip type - CPU, FPU, ALU, BSP (Bit-slice processor) or MCU. I keep prices only for spare chips so that I don't sell the chips cheaper than I paid for them Smile

It depends how it's sorted in the database. If I sort it by Family - then it's organized by family, if it's sorted by Manufacturer - then it's oganized by manufacturer.

If you want just to keep track of your collection then Excel or similar program (OpenOffice Calc) will do just fine. If you want to integrate your database with you website then use real database, like MySQL.
