Hello guys,
I want to build a computer for playing games and software of a time period that goes from 2000 to 2004. I don't know what is better between AMD Athlon XP or Pentium 4, considering prices and actual performance differences. What's your advice?

Although I prefer the AMD, for gaming performance the Intel setup is slightly better, pending the processor you choose. The Pentium 4 setup will be cheaper also. Prices on socket A (462) stuff is getting ridiculous lately.

By choosing P4, you will have the ability to use an Intel Chipset .. That wins by several points in my book ..

I would vote for a PIII-S 1400MHz and overclock it, its faster then a 2Ghz or so P4 anyways and probably more fun

Neither, Athlon 64 FTW! Athlon XP misses SSE2 and the Pentium 4.. yeah well let's not talk about that.

Obviously...but it wasn't one of the choices.

I'd probably go for a VIA KT333 based system with a universal AGP, maybe even AGP Pro. It would allow to use any AGP video card. 2GHz+ Athlon XP is quite fast for gaming of early 2000's titles.

I still remember how much fun I've had with a dual Athlon MP 2800+ machine based on a Tyan Tiger MPX with no overclocking options at all, yet I did it anyway Smile
