I was looking around on my local adverts site what 3dfx Voodoo cards were going for and I noticed the PCI versions of them go away for more money than AGP. Why is this?

One of the better cards for a PCI only system

My PCI Voodoo 5500 overclocked way better than any of my AGP 5500's.
PCI version is much more rare.

Just sold an AGP Voodoo 5 5500 for $350 in less than a week. I would ask for more than that for the PCI version.

Also, AGP Voodoos need a 3.3v-compatible AGP slot, so the fastest platform you can use is a Pentium 4 with a rare universal AGP motherboard.

I think PCI Voodoo3s are a lot more rare. AGP what quite developed by their release, and I remember outselling AGP V3 and TNT2 at about 20:1 over their PCI counterparts. If you were buying a new machine AGP was the way to go, and if you wanted to upgrade your old machine to play the latest games, upgrading the video card alone to a PCI V3 was rarely sufficient. Half of the PCI gaming cards we sold were returned for store credit against a new CPU/RAM/MB and AGP card within a few weeks.

And you can use them in a Amiga, and everything for the Amiga is expensive.

If I recall correctly, most of the V3 AGP cards were actually running a PCI interface over some bridge logic through AGP, so you wouldn't really gain any sort of performance by using the AGP over PCI.

No, the Voodoo 3 chip supports both the 3.3V AGP interface and 5V PCI 2.1 interface. Although it doesn't support any AGP features other than 2x data transfers and SBA. Yet AGP offers 4x more bandwidth than PCI.

The price is higher for PCI because it can be used in a much wider range of PC systems as well as Mac, Amiga, Alpha etc.
